Chapter 10

Recovery took time. Hale panted into the bedding, feeling the tidal ripple of pleasure cresting in low waves at each small movement of hers. They were wrapped around each other tightly and he was still buried deliciously deep inside her silky heat. She huffed into his ear, the little puffs of air tickling and making him smile, a very self-satisfied, male-animal smile.

Then she tensed, her body going rigid in his hold.

He groaned. “You’re just gonna have to kill me, Widow,” he mumbled into the bed. “I can’t move.”

“No, love, it’s not that,” she whispered, arms still wrapped around him.

He rolled his head until he could see her profile, the endearment tugging at him. She didn’t meet his gaze, eyes on the ceiling. A sly grin pulled at his lips. “Wanna go again? I might move for that.”

“I remember.” He finally noticed that her face was white and taut. “I remember—everything.”

He felt a stab of alarm and rose up onto his elbows, searching her face with an anxious frown. “What d’you mean?”

She didn’t meet his eyes, gray gaze unfocused and wandering. “I remember my life. I remember the GS. I remember…my code name was Kaleidoscope. His was Chameleon. We were Cam and Kal. Except he used to call me Leida in bed.”

Ice traveled down Hale’s spine, chilling his bones and freezing his heart. He used to call her Leida in bed? He? “Who’s he?” he asked sharply, but she still seemed lost in her memories.

“He was my partner, another ‘borg.” She suddenly loosened her hold and wiggled out from under him. “I have to find him,” she said, rolling with swift grace from the bed.

“You have to find him now?” He looked around, disoriented. Five minutes ago, he’d been buried deep inside her, making her climax over and over. Now she was on a mission to find an old lover. “Bee, where are you going?”

She was pulling on her robes with efficient haste, shoving her feet into her shoes. “I need to find Cam,” she said, her beautiful face intensely focused as she headed for the door.

“Stop!” When she paused and looked back at him in surprise, he lunged from the bed and stalked toward her. “Just what the fuck are you doing? You gonna leave Pri to go chasin’ after some old flame?” You’re going to leave me?

She gave him a look that said he was a complete idiot. “No, of course not,” she said with mild irritation before disappearing out the door.

He blinked at the portal then threw up his hands with a growl of despair, diving for his clothes. He ran down the corridor, still belting on his robes, and caught up with her as she turned out of the living quarters and headed for the communications section of the ship. “Wanna tell me why this is so goddamned urgent?” he growled, fast-walking with her through the vessel.

“Because he’s here,” she said with calm assurance, stopping him in his tracks.

“Here?” he repeated, then caught up with her again.
